I created Circle Rules Football at the Experimental Theater Wing of New York University in 2006. It has since spread internationally and I created the Federation in 2009 to manage its global playership

A co-ed, adult circle rules league started in Brooklyn, NY in 2008 and continues to encourage the competitive aspect of the game. Games run May-August at the Bushwick Inlet Field

Amsterdam World Cup
Amsterdam World Cup

In celebration of the 10th year of the sport, Amsterdam players decided to host a world cup tournament with support of the Federation. Representative teams from four countries participated. The next cup is scheduled for the weekend of July 1st, 2018 in Bristol, England

The thesis of Circle Rules Football holds that spectator sport and staged theater are mechanically the same form. They are culturally packaged so differently that each audience is unaware of the similarity.  

Circle Rules Football attempts to bridge the cultural gap between sport and theater by investing in all aspects of the game

MAKE SPORT workshops are available to groups of 8-50 participants. Curriculum covers basic concepts of game design, the cultural packaging of live entertainment, and multiple approaches to sport invention

Initially created in a New York theater school, the volunteer-run governing body is primarily made of professional artists. The sport has spread among creative athletes seeking alternative recreation.

The cultural divide between sports and theater is vast, and the players come from both sides.
